SVS Living Safe Motueka and Nelson SVS Living Safe

are open for support throughout this period. They have a Facebook page. They advise that:

  1. All of our staff who work across Nelson, Motueka, Golden Bay, Marlborough, West Coast, and Kaikoura are working remotely.
  2. Clinicians are meeting with clients by telephone or internet, not in person.
  3. If you need to contact us, you can do so during normal business hours by phone at 027 548 3850 or by email at at this time.
  4. We will not be starting new group programmes at this time.

Nelson Women’s Refuge Nga Wahine Tamariki Punanga O Whakatu

Due to the covid-19 situation, Nelson Women's and Children's Refuge will not be seeing clients face to face until further notice.


Please call our crisis line number on 0800 16 33 44 or your advocate's mobile number to speak to a staff member. You can call the crisis line number with no credit. It will continue to run 24/7 during this time. All staff and volunteers will carry on business as usual.


If you have an appointment or meeting booked already you will be contacted to arrange a phone or online option.


We will be checking in with all the people we are working with but please reach out if you need to speak to somebody sooner. We know this is a stressful time so please let us know if you need our support. Call 111 if it is an emergency.

Police will still respond and are preparing for the spike in family violence call outs. You are not a burden, you deserve to be safe. Call 111


Oranga Tamariki 0508 FAMILY

Oranga Tamariki will respond if there are children in compromised and unsafe environments. Oranga Tamariki are still responding to urgent call outs for child safety.


Te Awhina Marae, Motueka

Te Awhina Marae is officially closed until further notice, and that includes for tangihanga. If you need to contact any of our tenants please do so by phone, email or social media in the first instance. if you need to see them, ensure you are well before you come and practice social-distancing. Our kaumatua are very vulnerable at this time.

Civil Defence, Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council

Food or essential supplies. Civil Defence, Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council have set up a hotline for people with urgent welfare needs. If someone has an urgent need for food or essential supplies, then they can call their local Council:

People will then be directed to the appropriate service to provide assistance. The support service is for people who do not have friends, family or neighbours that can provide assistance. Remember, if people are able to help those in need, then please make sure you maintain 2-metre physical distance, wash your hands, and do not offer assistance if you are unwell.



If people have an urgent need for accommodation, they can call:

If financial assistance is required to use that accommodation, then New Zealanders can call MSD on 0800 559 009. Visitors are recommended to contact their local embassy or consulate.


Kai With Love (Food)
